We work to the depth and width on your engineer's or architect's drawings. Where steel is specified, it goes in on spacers so the concrete covers it properly. The trench is cleaned out and ready before building control comes to look, so the pour is not held up.
Fenland ground often needs more than a standard strip footing. Shrinkable clay, soft silt and peat, a high water table and nearby trees can all push the design deeper or towards trench-fill, rafts or piles. We dig what the design calls for and tell you straight away if the ground on the day does not match it.

Before you book
Straight answers before you build
How deep do extension foundations need to be?
The depth is set by your drawings and building control. On shrinkable clay and near trees it is often deeper than a metre. We dig to the specified depth and building control checks the trench before the pour.
Do you pour the concrete as well as dig?
Yes. We dig, fix any steel, get the trench inspected and pour, so the footing is finished in one visit where the programme allows.
Can you build on peat or soft ground?
Peat and soft silt need a specific design from an engineer, such as a raft or piles. We build to that design.
Do I need building control for footings?
Extensions and new buildings need building regulations approval, and the foundation trench is inspected before concrete goes in. We work to those inspection stages.
